About our Club

In common with most Rotary clubs in RIBI, we undertake many tasks in the community where time given is as important as donating funds to local charities and good causes. Below is a selection of our interesting and varied activities.

Once a year we assemble a team to act as car parking attendants at The Sturts Farm Open Day in West Moors where any proceeds raised are used to support this wonderful organisation. Sturts Farm organisation is an adult community working together with people with learning disabilities.

In the last Rotary year our incumbent President chose the Youth Cancer ITrust as his preferred charity for the year. There was need for a place where the young people who were seeking a less active environment could 'chill out' when not joining in the more active pursuits. Our Club was pleased to fund a chalet in the garden for this purpose.

The Barnado's organisation has set up two local meeting points, in Ferndown and in West Moors Middle Schools, where parents and children can meet and the children have a secure outside area in which to play. Our Club had the privilege of being able to plant out the area and paint the all-important Wendy House.

The Club maintains a rota of members formed into teams of Driver and Escort, who man the transport and provide assistance on one day per week for Age Concern. Elderly folk are collected from their homes and taken to a Day Centre and then returned home later in the day.

Each spring we are fortunate that, with the help of Avon Country Park, we are able to organise a 'Fun Run' where all can take part, from serious runners to young children. This is another event which requires most of our membership to participate and, in doing so, enjoy the fellowship that Rotary affords.

Each year all our able-bodied Rotarians and helpers are mobilised to take part in a Christmas Collection outside a large local garden centre and local supermarkets, come rain, hail or shine. We are always amazed at the generosity of the local citizens who give so generously, thus enabling us to provide help in the community, together with other good causes.

Once a year members of the club are fortunate to be asked to assist in the complex parking arrangements at the Ellingham Show on Lord Mornington's estate. For this service we usually receive a generous cash reward which is donated to the charities we support.

Would you like to join Ferndown Rotary Club, a local club where you can have loads of fun as well as give something back to your community? If the answer is YES then Ferndown Rotary Club might be just the right place for you. Our club is open to both men and women of all ages, whether in employment or retired. We meet most Wednesday evenings, 6.30 for 7, at Cobham’s Sports and Social Club in Merley, when we have the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and learn how to make difference. In addition to a varied Wednesday evening programme, we also arrange social outings, such as walks, theatre trips, etc. We are always interested in hearing from people who want to get involved in local and international projects or use their professional skills to help others. If you would like to know more about our club, why not join us as a guest one evening and see what we get up to. You will be made very welcome but please ring either our membership officer, Paul Hunter, on 01202-871614 or our President Elect, Chris Marshall, on 01202-890565 in advance, so that we are aware that you are coming.
